OSGi is here, there and everywhere ...
but is it a recipe for disillusionment in the enterprise?

OSGi™ in the enterprise is here to stay. It's a done deal from the Java application server vendor perspective and there is a real ground swell of activity within numerous open source projects and growing interest from the ISV communities.

Mapping OSGi onto Gartner's ‘hype cycle', it seems clear that OSGi in the enterprise is in the “Peak of Inflated Expectations” phase – and we know what comes next … the dreaded “Trough of Disillusionment”!

If you want to bridge the "Trough of Disillusionment", then you must not look at OSGi in isolation. You must balance the developer and architects benefits of adopting OSGi, by combining it with a model-driven architecture to address the needs of operations and avoid delivering them a ticking time bomb of complexity - more >
The Infiniflow ESB Runtime Service -
a Scalable, Resilient Messaging Solution
The Infiniflow Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) Runtime Service leverages the popular Mule open source ESB, enabling ESB messaging and connectivity across the Infiniflow Service Fabric and providing enhanced scale and resilience to Mule ESB installations.

The ESB is a key element in any service-oriented architecture (SOA), but Forrester and other industry experts caution that an ESB is only one piece of an enterprise-wide SOA strategy. The ESB can be thought of as a messaging bus which becomes part of the platform and provides access to different services, but most companies are aiming to build a flexible SOA infrastructure and it is here that the combination of Infiniflow and Mule ESB offers rewards - more >

ESBs and Beyond -
Harnessing Newton for Advanced Messaging

In the latest instalment of our 2008 webinar series, Neil Ellis of Mangala Solutions will explore the advantages of building an open source ESB-based messaging solution on the Newton distributed OSGi runtime. The discussion is based on his experience of deploying Mule on the Newton platform, with reference to the Mule4Newton open source project.

This webinar is intended for developers and architects - ideally those with some understanding of ESBs, Java and Mule. Please click here to register.
